4/18/21 "Love & Loyalty"

"Love & Loyalty"

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”  Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
John 21:15‭-‬17 NIV

Jesus wasn't  satisfied with just hearing Simon Peter  say, "I  love you" because words can be misleading- Leading you to believe something that's not always true. Instead, He NEEDED Peter to prove his love for him, prove his loyalty to him by taking care of his sheep.

You see, What we often forget is that Jesus (as a man) had to deal with the PROS & CONS of being in a relationship with those closest to him too.

And after, Simon Peter, one of those closest to him had publicly denied him, denied even knowing him (See Matt 26:69-75)... Jesus had every right to test him before reinstating him, which He did.

You see, Beloved, you can't just allow that person that hurt you back into your life as though nothing happened. FORGIVE THEM, so that you can be forgiven. Matt 6:14 NIV

BUT THEN,  if you decide (it's always your decision) to allow them back close to you....

Don't be afraid to test them, before you reinstate them. Learn from the way Jesus handled being denied, being hurt by someone he had a relationship with.

Jesus didn't just let Peter say a few "I love you's " and then pretend like everything was the same as before, because it wasn't.  Peter had to be reinstated meaning restored back to his position.

Quick question: Did you just allow that person to come back or did God actually restore them back? 🤦

Until Next Sunday.
