"Cherishing Sin"
What does your heart look like? Remember, God looks at the heart and NOT the outward appearance according to 1 Samuel 16:7
Are you cherishing something in your heart that came about because of sin?
If so, You're right...God is not listening, He’s not listening to your prayers because of the sin that's in your heart, the sin that you are cherishing.
---
📖 Verse: Psalm 66:18 (NIV)
“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.”
---
🔍 Word Study: "Cherish"
What does it mean to cherish sin?
- In The Original Hebrew: The word translated as “cherish” comes from a root meaning to regard, consider, or give place to. It implies intentionality—not just having sin, but holding it close.
 - To cherish sin is to protect it, justify it, or refuse to release it.
 - It’s not about struggling with sin, but clinging to it knowingly.
---
- The psalmist is saying that if he had knowingly held onto sin, God would not have responded to his prayers.
• Because cherishing sin creates a spiritual blockage. It’s not that God is unwilling to listen, but that unrepentant sin distorts the relationship.
---
•Personal accountability:
-  “If I…” shows the psalmist owns his spiritual condition.
- Because intimacy with God requires honesty and honesty is the 1st step to you taking accountability.
- GOOD NEWS:
- Repentance restores access: When sin is confessed and released, the barrier is removed.
So, Ask God to show you that thing, that time in your life that you are cherishing, that is sin. REPENT & SEEK to let it go. Make room for God to listen again.

Until Next Sunday.
